We are thrilled to share the achievements of Hanhineva Lab at the 3rd Nordic Metabolomics Conference. Our dedicated team had seven representatives actively contributing to the event which took place in Trondheim, Norway October 18-20. Our team showcased our latest research on metabolomics in food and nutrition. We had three oral and five poster presentations, and two of our members received travel awards.
On Thursday, October 19, our group leader, Professor Kati Hanhineva, delivered a keynote speech on metabolite profiling in food and nutrition research, highlighting the applications and challenges of this approach in various contexts. Later that day, our PhD student Hany Ahmed gave an oral presentation on his work on plasma metabolic profiling of patients with alcohol use disorder, showing how metabolites linked to psychological traits change during alcohol withdrawal.
Our postdoctoral researchers Anna Kårlund and Iman Zarei, and our PhD students Ambrin Babu, Jasmin Raita, and Sara Rocha, presented their posters on topics ranging from plant metabolomics to gut microbiota modulation. Sara also had the opportunity to give a speed-presentation on her poster about the metabolic impact of whole grain diets on brain regions in a pig feeding trial. Both Hany and Sara were awarded travel grants to attend the conference.
We are also excited to announce that the next Nordic Metabolomics Conference will take place in Turku, Finland, August 26-28, 2024. Professor Kati Hanhineva, Professor Matej Oresic and Dr. Alex Dickens from the University of Turku will host the event. We look forward to welcoming you to our beautiful city and sharing our research with you. Stay tuned for more details on the conference website and follow us on Twitter for updates.
